I just wonder if he could take teams like Cleveland, Oakland Tampa to division title this year... I think when we evaluate a QB we are also evaluating his receivers.

i agree with most of you. they were bad when they drafted him but they didnt stop there they brought some excellent players in both side of the team. so it is not like they brought peyton and all of the sudden they are in the playoff. i remmeber one season he got alot of hit in his face and barely walked off the field. i am not sure what season it was but it was ugly for him every time he stood behind his offensive line.

I agree with you, but when you evaluate the QB you evaluate the whole offense. Payton Manning does have an awesome group of receivers, but look at his offensive line too. Manning has all day to throw the football, and he rarely ever gets sacked. He also has had good running backs to relieve some of the pressure off of him when he needs it.

I do believe if you put Payton Manning on the Browns, Cardinals, Buccaneers or Raiders you would have a completely different result.

You also have to remember that the Colts realize that Payton Manning is the Man who will make or break the team and they built the team around him, so that is something alot of teams do not do either.

Peyton Manning has complete control of his offense. He calls what play he wants to run, when he hits the line of scrimmage, and most QB's in the league do not have the ability to do that, so he is a one of a kind in the apspect.

You do realize that the year before he arrived and in his rookie year they were 3-13 and that they have only been below 10 wins once since including 4 straight 12 win seasons?

You do also realize that Harrison had 2 800 yard seasons before Manning arrived and that he has never been below 1100 yards since?

Another thing to consider is that with 7 seasons of 10 or more wins they always pick in the bottom 3rd and in the bottom 5 teams the last 4 years, so theoretically they should not get the best players in the draft, same as the Patriots, but they do an excellent job of finding overlooked gems and developing them..

Peyton Manning + Tom Moore would make any team a contender, at least on offense. However, I like them just fine in Indianapolis so let's not find out how they would do elsewhere!

However, of the teams on your list Oakland would be the toughest job. You would have San Diego and Denver in the way to a division title..

edit: for everyone saying Manning is completely a product of his line here are their draft positions:
Glenn - Round 1 replaced by Ugoh - Round 2
Lilja - Undrafted
Saturday - Undrafted (cut by Baltimore)
Scott - Round 5
Diem - Round 4
While I think Howard Mudd has done a masterful job of developing these guys they were hardly a band of superstars before coming to the Colts. Manning helps them by calling the plays at the line of scrimmage and by having one of the fastest releases in the league

He was. He took the Colts to where they are. He made stars out of many above average players who came in there after him. But I understand what you're saying, if you were to put Peyton on the Browns now, would they be a playoff contender. The answer is no. However, Tampa he probably could. NFC is so bad, and 8-8 might make the playoffs.

The question you have to ask, is would marvin harrison be such a reciever, if he had played for Tampa Bay ?

Steve Young was awful as Tampa's QB, but he looked pretty good as San Frans QB.

It's hard to tell, the Colts offense has been build around Payton Manning.

If you put him on oaklan, tampa or clevelans, would they make the super bowl, probally not.

But Oakland and Tampa would sure make the playoffs with him.

He was playing for a team in the bottom of the league. How do you think the Colts got him?

In 1997, the colts were 3-13 and drafted peyton manning with the first pick in the 1998 draft.

The colts were again 3-13 in 1998 as peyton picked up the pro game.

From then on, its been a trajectory up.

I believe the Colts are a finely tuned machine. They know what kind of athletes trhey need to run this offense that dominates football at this time. When Peyton Manning is close to the end, they will find a QB with similar qualities to be in this offense.

Even Bart Starr, Otto Graham, Joe Montana and Dan Marino in their primes would struggle with horrendous offensive lines and zombie-like receivers. Don't forget Atlanta, Jacksonville and Green Bay (yes, I'm nodding towards Favre as a difference maker) on your list of struggling offenses like that.

hmmm.... NO.

Maybe he could have provided Houston with a few more wins, but would not have brought up the entire program to become contenders.

I think the Colts would still be contenders if Peyton goes down for some reason..

He is certainly a great QB, but a great QB can only do so much..

A quaterback like Manning elevates his team because of his skills but the receiver is not as important as the offensive line. No line the qb does not stand upright for long.

Just think of this...would the Colts make the playoffs without Peyton? I don't think they would.....well maybe in the AFC South because it's such a weak division.
