I just got the Depo provera shot and I have a wierd side effect.
My vagina has a stinky smell. yuk!!! My sister and a friend had this side effect. i was wondering if anyone else has this happen if so when did it go away or did it.

Katja P that is YOUR experience! If you have already had the shot then obviously you have already thought through some of the side effects etc. You should go to the doctor about the smell, maybe depo just isnt the right thing for you, im sure you'll find something that is.

I have actually had a fairly pleasant experience with Depo Provera. That stinky smell might be caused by the fact that Depo Provera can sometimes decrease your sex drive which causes you to be a little dry. It should go away in a few weeks. Just give your body some time to get used to these changes, because Depo Provera is a pretty huge shock to your hormones when you get the first injection.

I really would reconsider the shot. A LOT of women have some serious health issues because of the shot.
Please research it more before getting your second shot.

Yes, the Depo shot is easier and you only gotta do it 1x every 3 months... but... think about your body in the long-run.
My PCP (primary doc) would not write me a script for that shot. She said she was against because 1) it makes you gain weight and 2) it could make you have osteporosis later on.
Obviously, she went on to say that abstinence (not having sex) would be best *haha*, but if I chose to have sex... then to use the pills.
They are a pain in the butt, I know, but... it's safer than taking that shot.
Btw... there is a new pill out called "Yaz"... talk to your OB/GYN or to your PCP about it. I've known many women to take it and they said it works!!!
It helps with mood swings also!

that stinky smell isn't even the worst of it...please consider a safer alternative to bc it ruined my hormones. And btw that smell might be caused by lessened cervical mucus so the vagina is too dry.

that shot will make you gain weight, not get your period properly after you go off it, have a hard time getting pregnant, take away your sex drive, make you hormonal, it's just bad.

no but it did cause me to gain so much weight the doctor had to take me off it.
