Yes, it most certainly did. I see most answers focused only on the US but slavery's been around for far longer than that and has impacted on world history for thousands of years.
The Mediterranean and Near Eastern cultures [Greek, Persians, Romans, Egyptians, etc.] all had slave-based cultures. Its often said the Roman empire was built on slavery. Sparta for instance had such a martial culture because of their huge slave population that had to be kept under control. In almost all the ancient cultures, slavery was custom. Usually it were conquored peoples, those defeated in battle, that were sold into slavery. Some people who had too much debt, were too poor and had no other option, sold themselves into slavery. You also had bondsmen, someone who for instance had bad debt and because he/she cannot pay, would sell themselves into service [very much like slavery] for a certain period of time to work off the debt. In Europe for a long time there were hardly any slaves but with the advent of colonisation and conquest, slavery once again reared its ugly head.
In more recent history, countries such as the US, India and many other colonies were built on slavery as well, much like in older days. England was the first country of the modern era to abolish slavery in their country and all their colonies.
The last 150 years is probably the first time in world history that slavery is mostly abolished and is considered to be inhumane and wrong. Its also the first time that modern "empires" are built without any slave workforce to rely on.
Hope that helps... :)

Apparently, judging by many of the answers given here, slavery in the rest of the world (Sumeria, Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, the Middle East, Northern Europe, and Eastern Europe, etc.) has made no impact (or impression) on the people of the United States.
Yes, slavery did have a big impact on world history.
Those who reduce slavery throughout the world as a black and white issue in the U.S.A. have missed the point completely.

yea, but to be completely honest. Not to sound racist, but Black people and white people still have a lot of hate crime against eachother. The main reason why that is is because
One: Whites and blacks being intimate
two: black people will hold slavery against whites for years to come. Even though whites now day's had nothing to do about it.
three: white pride people like to make hate crime worse by being ignorant fools and make everything worse in todays society.
I personally have no problem with black people, but sometimes they need to let stuff go.
Whites and blacks should both stop hate crime. We cut and bleed the same color.
