They're not 100% accurate. I don't know what the main reason for them not working is but I guess maybe the hormone level doesn't quite work and it doesn't suppress ovulation or do whatever it's supposed to do.
Of course the main reason they fail is being used incorrectly - many women don't even know they're doing that - sometimes if you get the time wrong, or vomit it, or take antibiotics, it can interfere with the pill.

well, that IS what the pill is SUPPODED to do, when people get pregnant on the pill its because its not working i.e. its not stopping the ovulation. I'm not totally sure of the reason, I know sometimes if a woman is over a certain weight then a low dose pill might not work. But there are normal weight women who use the pill and still ovulate too. If someone is ovulating while on the pill then they probabaly need a high dosage. I dont think that there is anyway to determine ahead of time whether or not its going to work for someone, but if you take an at home ovulation test then you would know. I hope this helps.

i was married before i started to have sex but the first time i got pregnant was not planned because i was on the pill. Dr told me that my body was rejecting it which also happen you have no idea that the pill can do that until they do blood work or you get pregnant so you could also be taking a pill that does nothing no matter what the Dr says. So even if your married and having sex and are not ready take it and use a condom. The only reason why i knew i was pregnant being on the pill was that i have my periods off and on for 2 months straight it was very light pink and spotting.
Then after i had the kid i had to get blood work done to fin the right pill for me so every month i was on a new pill until they found one. Crazy huh

Birth control pills aren't 100% effective. It's not always
the user's fault. It is imperative that you use them as
prescribed if you want to keep within the 90% effective
margin. Remember- that last 10% equals a baby.
Ladies, think about who you are sleeping around with.
If he's not treating you like a Goddess. Don't take any
chances. Not even those last 10 percent. Keep your
legs CROSSED!

There are a number of reasons. Some women forget to take their pills or skip them. Other reasons are that pills are less effective on larger women and some medications can and do reduce the effectiveness of the pills.

Birth control isn't 100%. Women miss pills and don't take them at the same time everyday.

just like condoms, nothing is 100%. Some still have periods on birth control, even if light, miss a pill, skip a pill, etc.

Because NOTHING is 100% effective?
Even taking them as prescribed and every day at the same time each day you have a 1% chance of becoming pregnant.
