I purposely didnt finish the question because I would like to know from you why you think that may be (if it is true)

Let me know of the truthfullness of this because WOW I thought that men and women were split because of brawn not brain. I cant imagine where there is any physical pain in chess.

Wow I am just amased at this. I did get the idea from what you said in another post, but I am going to read up on this as this would have to be a defining example of the gender war. Its not about strenght. I was wondering if women had the opportunity to play the men and if not, why not. Has any top woman player palyed any men and had a good beating.

I am disappointed with some of the answers so far trying to fleet around the idea that chess has got nothing to do with inteligence. Anyway, regardless of intelligence, why cant a women (bay far) come close to beating men at chess, forget the rest of the nonsence

Then my question still stands. If chess (as you say) is an inferior thaought process) then why is it that women cant beat men at chess. Dont think of your answer as a them verse us, just think of it logically and without bias.

Thank you for your answers. Amongst other answers that were purely them vs us (which could be taken by the questions slight intent) women have their place intelligence wise and men have their place intelligence wise. But one things for certain, we dont think alike and will excel in certain areas. So to me for the moment I am so over women saying they are better than men when in fact they should be saying we are better than men DOING WHAT???

Chess abilities are not indicative of intelligence or wisdom. I have never met a man yet who can beat me at chess. AND, I've never known a single man who could twelve-shuttle tat. TRUE intelligence is being able to do THIS:

Edit: You have clearly missed my point. Chess is what is nonsense as an indicator of intelligence. It is a game about battle. I play it well. I know. But, there is no wisdom in battle. And, chess is a game of two polarized black and white sides. Dichotomous thought is inferior thinking, a mere trinket of cognitive abilities. To be outstanding at dichotomous thinking is a bit like a freak show only. One can become quite adept at dichotomous thinking much as one can become quite adept at blowing bubbles with bubblegum or tossing a Frisbee. But, that does not mean blowing bubbles or playing Frisbee or dichotomous thinking in themselves indicates higher intelligence, you silly. If you go to college someday you will learn that in many different sciences.

Edit: Dichotomous thinking is a spatial thought process. Generally, males think slightly more spatially than they do verbally. Females think slightly more verbally than they do spatially. In other words, men and women have slightly differently wired brains. Intelligence is made up of BOTH spatial and verbal thinking skills, and other thinking skills and processes as well. Dichotomous thinking is to intelligence as arm wrestling is to the world's strongest man or Superman. It's only a small part of intelligence. It possibly might not be a part of wisdom at all.

Wow, so much rampant misinformation out there. Chess is one of the few endeavors in which women can't point to what happened a thousand years ago and say, "See, it is because we weren't allowed to play waaaaay back then..." During the middle ages throughout Europe, the only permissable reason for an unmarried man and woman to be behind closed doors was for the purpose of playing chess. Of course, quite often it was not chess that was being played, but each had to learn the game in order to use that excuse.

Anyway, back not too awful long ago (historically speaking) maybe the early 90s, the idea was introduced to create a WGM category - Women's GrandMaster. Two of the most vocal detractors were the Polgar sisters who had reached chess greatness and grandmaster status without such a crutch. They were understandably quite angry with the lowered special standard. They lost their protest.

"For the good of young girls everywhere. It will really encourage young girls to start playing and want to compete" they cried. Nothing of the sort happened. They started women's tournaments. Still nothing.

Incidentally, Judit Polgar reached (I believe) the top ten in the the world.

IQ scores likely have nothing with it. The difference between male and female scores pales in comparison to the difference between the scores of certain ethnic groups. IQ has been proven time and again to be a poor indicator of actual intelligence, and especially of ability to perform any particular task other than taking IQ tests.

My suggestions:

1: Sexual discrimination is a rather new term for a rather old habit. Women may have started their own chess teams because the men of the male's chess teams tended to get a little too touchy feely with the female participants.

2: Chess is a rather old game, and was most popular in a time when many other activities, even those that are not very athletic (pool, darts, table tennis, department stores, schools...) were divided by sex to some degree. Society may have just expected the division to be made for the sake of "propriety."

3: Male and female brains do have certain specific differences, particularly in the overall size, and connectedness between the two halves of the brain. Studies have shown certain differences in thought processes. Women tend to learn directions best by landmarks, men tend to learn directions best by distances. Under stress, men tend to react with "Fight or flight." Women tend to react with "tend and befrend." It is possible that these differences favor certain differences in chess strategy, both on the board, and off the board, which may cause problems in adjucating a "fair match." I highly doubt this, but differences in thought patterns may lead to some differences in game play style.

You don't have to be a genius to play chess. You just have to memorize moves and know when to use them. However, the reason there is such a team is because of the old attitude of not liking to be defeated by a girl is rearing its ugly head once again.
