They use a type of saw with a vibrating blade. The saw is designed in a way that the blade will cut the cast but will not cut skin. For my young patients, I frequently showed them it wouldn't cut skin by placing the running saw blade against the palm of my hand.

Once the hard casting material is cut, it is separated with a metal device (again, no pain is felt) often the soft lining material is cut away with blunted tipped scissors.

Hope this helps

The department where he will go have special devise that cut through the cast, without even touching the skin. He will not feel a thing nothing to be afraid of. He might be able to keep the cast to show his friends, it's a bit smelly though.

It used to be with a shaky hammer like they dig holes with, but modern hospitals use an electric saw. It looks lethal but you don't feel a thing. the operator will put the cutter onto his/her hand to reassure you (and your son.) Usually the padding stinks, be ready for it to strike you deep into your nasals.

the use an ocilating saw which only works wen pressed again something solid so it will cut the cast but its impossible for it to cut soft skin. quite clever really.

A small controlled saw. Won't hurt but he might itch a few days. Get the lotion ready.
