I went to my OBGYN a couple of months ago concerned about heavy periods. Since then I have undergone a litany of tests and procedures which have revealed that I have:
1. Many Ovarian Cysts - particularly on my left ovary
2. A rather large Uterine Polyp
3. Irregular cells from my pap smear and HPV

I'm currently scheduled for a colposcopy for the HPV and irregular cells and a Dilation and Cutterage (D&C) for the polyp, and several blood tests to see if I have poly-cystic ovaries (seems pretty obvious). Because of a demanding work schedule I have these procedure scheduled for mid-October, but everyday I'm getting more worried.

I'm not usually one to jump to conclusions or assume the worst case scenario. I also know that each of these things is pretty standard - but the combination of all of these things is concerning me. It's like my entire reproductive system is failing.

Does anyone have any experience with this combination of symptoms? How worried should I be?

Obviously I'm concerned about cervical cancer - anything else I should be researching?

I'm only 27 - and I was hoping to start trying to conceive this year. I know the colposcopy is a quick procedure, but I will be out of town until mid October - I seriously considered canceling my work trips, but decided against it.

You don't mention your age and if you have had children or are planning to hae children in the future.

If you have no future plans for a family, a total hysterectomy would probably solve all your problems in one hit.

Otherwie, the cysts are treatable.

They can remove the polyp - hopefully without damaging your uterus.

They can monitor you with further pap smears, in some cases your body can spontaneously totally recover from HPV in about 2 years and monitoring is done to check in case of progres to cancer in the future.

Good luck with your prognisis!

Uterine polyps are relatively common and unless you are trying to conceive, will not be a big issue. Multiple ovarian cysts may cause pain and PCOD will also cause infertility. However, you are obviously getting this looked at and should not worry about it. If you have a good gynecologist, he will provide the required treatment. An abnormal PAP smear and HPV is a little more serious and will required (probably) some surgery to treat. There are several ways to address this issue and depending on the size, your gynecologist may suggest cryo or cone biopsy. These are usually done under local anesthesia and are not dangerous procedures. There is no need to freak out about this situation. I'm sure you'd rather it was someone else that had these problems, but all will be well. In this day and age, none of these conditions are fatal if you get them treated. And the heavy periods will most likely stop.

I would consider getting the colopsopy done ASAP so you don't sit around all month worrying about cervical cancer. That will only take about as long as a normal pelvic exam does so get that scheduled and out of the way, If had a possibility of cervical cancer I would want to get that diagnosed ASAP to start treatment.

There are exclusive sorts of medical professionals for exclusive materials of the frame. A gynecologist is only a general practitioner for that facet of your frame. If you get an illness, a gynecologist goes to must appear. They also are there to do pap checks and such to be certain you are healthful and do not need melanoma or different sicknesses. They're right here to support you. They aren't simply the general practitioner to look if you are pregnant or having intercourse. They are for all matters to do with the reproductive process.
