a lot of you are getting it mixed up saying hip-hop is "stuff to dance to in the club"and dance music and people like soulja boy are hip-hop artists but you got it all wrong those songs are rap songs and not hip-hop.
hip-hop artists are lupe, common, kanye, talib, mos def etc.
rap artist are people like 50, soulja boy, young joc, mike jones etc.

I don't even say those are rap artists, I say there more like Hip Pop. Or Even club rap. Artists like that are the reason hip hop has a bad name, you turn on BET and you see artists telling you how to dance rather than talking about something meaningful.

well i read this in the source, hiphop is a way of life, rap is a music category. So this mean all rappers like biggie, tupac, kanye, mos def all fall into the same rap category, and the rap lifestyle these rappers live is called hiphop. some people seem to think that hiphop is another music category. but they are two different things.

ummm... it really depends on what song ur talking about. sometimes a rap artist will make songs for the club but put hip hop tracks on mix tapes. You can't categorize hip hop/rap by the artist its a case by case thing... "hate it or love it" by game and 50 cent is a hip hop track... thats one of 50's realest songs and it reflect hip hop progression and the thoughts of other artists related to the hip hop movement. I'm sure plenty of ppl can relate to the message in that song therefore influential therefore contributory to enlightenment for someone somewhere. BUT yes some of these ppl do have hip hop and rap mixed up... typically what you hear on the radio is RAP MUSIC thus the need for RAP CITY AND MTV RAPS although sometimes they do play hip hop music. Oh here we go... if you repeat ur hook several times over and over again like, "diamonds on my damn chain, diamonds on my damn chain" or "pop, lock, and drop it, pop, lock, in drop it" that is rap music as apposed to hip hop. all the kiddy hooks... that's rap music... the bogus messages that's rap... cause all ur doing is dishing simple minded catchy sounding lyrics that only scave the surface of any individuals thirsty for music... rap makes me drive fast... i drive on cruise control to hip hop.
