...specific-wise, there have been three directly filmed versions of author H.G. Wells classic sci-fi/horror story; there's...
"Island of Lost Souls", from 1932, and starring Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi
"Island of Dr. Moreau", from 1977, and starring Burt Lancaster and Michael York (...my favorite version)
"Island of Dr. Moreau", from 1996, and starring Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer (...a most embarrassing version, for all involved in making the film, as well as the hapless viewers)
...however, there HAS been other variations on the story, including:
"Terror is a Man", from 1959, starring Frances Lederer
"Twilight People", from 1973, starring John Ashley and Pam Grier
"Dr. Moreau's House of Pain", from 2004

The Boys From Brazil is another scientific experimentation flick, from the 1970s. Gregory Peck against the Nazis.
The Island, with Ewan McGregor, is a slightly-futuristic story, with a good twist. Also more scientific experimentation, but fun, with good action.
