Actually I just did this a couple of months ago...
I was at my bank and I walked out to my car and saw something in the mud...
It was a mans wallet with credit cards, phone numbers, drivers license, and all kinds of other things in it...
I happen to be honest, so I called up some of the phone numbers to locate him and I found his dad...

I explained who I was and what I found and he told me his son was in the process of moving so his phone wasn't working...
I had the dad get a hold of him and the guy called me and we picked a place to meet and I told him I didn't want a reward, but I was happy to give him back his wallet, and when we met, I waited for him to go through it to make sure nothing was missing...
He gave me a hand painted picture he had worked on and I was pleased...
We both thanked each other and drove off...
It was a great feeling...

I can't believe so many people are saying they'd keep it. How DARE you all. I hope Karma comes back to bite all of you that said that.

For the record, i found a ladies purse about 28 years ago (i was about 12 yrs old at the time). It had over $6,000 in cash in it, plus a bank book with in excess of $72,000 (obviously back in the 70's this was a LOT of money).

I ran home, tracked down her phone number and rang her. She came to my house (she was an elderly lady). She had been so distraught as she had just taken the money out of her account in order to buy a car for her Sister. She was so excited that i was so honest that she gave me $20. I was so excited that she did that, but THEN she came back later and gave me an extra $30, saying she was so touched by the honesty for someone of my age. I was thrilled. I have never forgotten that day and the look on her face. It was worth more than any money i could ever have received. I also believe my actions are the reason why my life has been so great.

'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'. I'm not religious, but they are words to live by.

Think before you act, as everything we do has consequences, even if we don't see them at the time.

Dear,

I will try my very best to locate the owner. It must be something in the wallet. The driving license etc., etc., etc.

That's not my money. If I can't locate the owner, I will sent it to the nearest police station. Leave it to them, they know best how to locate the owner.

If I you take the money and throw away the wallet, I can bet to myself that I will be in trouble sooner or later. I might get sick and die or I'll met with an accident and be permanent disability or at minimum I will loose money at least 3 time $500.00 to the amount of $1500.00.

I strongly belief that's will happen to me. That's absolutely true.

I know what it is like to struggle so yes, I would find the owner and leave the money in the wallet. The person that lost it, that might be all the money they have. I would want someone to return my money if they found it. And yes, if I get to much changein the checkout line, I return it. I even paid 2 weeks later for some cheese I friend of mine ate in the store then forgot o pay for. I told him not to eat it before paying. He didn't listen and he forgot about it by the time we got to check out. I remebered later while shopping with my family and told my husband who paid for it when we paid for our groceries.

Of course I would try to locate the owner of the wallet even if it had no money or lots of money...
It is not mine to keep...
I have lost my wallet in the past and had wonderful people call me telling me they found my wallet with my ID inside as to who I was and where I lived and I was so happy to get my wallet back...
I had other things in there that were irreplaceable to me and I wanted those things more than the money...
I offered a reward too...

Yes i would and have done a few times. I know that sinking feeling only too well when i misplace or have my purse stolen. I was on my honeymoon, left my purse on the roof of our car to tie my hair up.... then he drove off, completely oblivious to the fact it was full of our only cards and heaps of cash. Got back into where we were staying, realized.... and have never been so knotted up. No cash or cards to get money and 1 day before we were due to leave for home. We drove an hr back to where i left it and in the visitors book was a beautiful little note from a girl who picked it up.... with her phone number. Trust if it's ever happened to you then you would not want to see it happen to someone else if it was all in your hands.

Yes, yes, yes! I have found 2 wallets and one purse. I looked until I found the person's identification and then contacted them. I don't care about the money! I lost a purse once and lost special pictures along with my id and credit cards. If I can save someone else from going through that misery I will.

I would return it to the owner no doubt, with all of the money I found in the purse. It just seems like the right thing to do. If I ever lost my purse/wallet I would hope that someone would return it to me with all of the contents still intact.

It's not stealing if u found it. I am a strong believer of God as well as Karma. So you never know god could have givin me the money knowing that i need it. However Karma could kick me in the *** for it later on. knowing these things if i had enought money at the time i would return it fo sure. If i was roughing it at the time i would see if i know the person first and if not i would keep the money think ing it was a gift from the skys or karma returning the wallet i lost last month but still return the wallet & ID

Yea i would find the person and give back the money and the wallet, because i don't steal, though it is funny that there are about half of the people that are answering this question said they would keep the money
