if ur kid asked u "why should i be good?" u'll probably answer "because there's the police". This answer seems sufficient to the atheist, but if the kid continued to say "but if i'm Superman, why then should i be good?" "It's good to be good" but why then shouldn't it also good to own the world. This question can only be answered "There's a God who's infinitely more powerful, and u'll always lose". Only the logic that u can never succeed is a sufficient answer

As many human beings... as many chain of thoughts can there be! Every human being has been endowed by God Almighty with the power of discrimination that distinguishes us from animals. Mounted with this power of discrimination and ego... so-called spiritualists, philosophers and religious teachers sometimes project to the community thoughts that belie the truth!

God Almighty exists is a fact. Why? It is for the simple reason that unless God Almighty (the sum total of all purified souls atmans in the Cosmos) explodes self with a big bang... formation of Cosmos would not occur. If we exist... if the Cosmos exists... it is amply clear that God Almighty also exists.

If a grain of sand is individual soul atman... the whole mound God Almighty... attributes of both remaining the same! In the entity of God it is absolute faith that rules the cosmic system! Devoid of faith most scientists world over deny the existence of God. Science demands proof but in the domain of God... it is faith in Almighty God wherein spiritual seekers seek solace!

If someone asked, why I should be good... the simple reason is for my own benefit... I must remain humble... a good soldier of God! Unless I enact good karma... how can the fruits of karma be positive! If I desire marrying the Princess of the state, I need to indulge in karma accordingly. Remaining engrossed in trivialities of life I am nothing more than a contract labor!

I may exist on karma index of 7.300600 and if the Princess exists on karma index of 7.306600 then I need gaining 6000 points on the scale of karma. Devoid of faith such accomplishments are rarely possible! The moment one reaches the karma index of 7.300600 it is possible that one may marries the Princess of the state.

All souls existing on the karma index of 7.300600 would turn out best soul mates... made for each other! To enact or not to enact is the sole prerogative of every human being. Every human being has a total of 1.1 million manifestations in the human form to reach the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and salvation (moksha)!

My remaining good or not is not least concerned with moral police. I am the master and controller of my destiny. The doctrine of karma explicitly states... as we sow so shall we reap... nothing less for more! For the Superman to enact good karma is his judgement. One can always indulge in vices at any stage of life!

Every human being remaining the master and controller of life has none to blame! Human form is the highest manifest stage in the cosmic life cycle. Only as human beings the soul atman within gains liberation from the cycle of birth and death forever! Regaining its lost pure pristine form... the liberated soul atman finally gains entry into the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism). More on God - http://www.godrealized.com/god.html

people are inherently good and look to each other for approval, society's without single gods do just fine. But Bring a single cruel god into the picture and you in effect say, 'well i like you, but god might not so i will be careful'. and worse ' i didn't see you pray properly, so you are a BAD person. I will try to help you or i may have to call the police because you are going to hell. I believe in God in a better way and so i am better then you and so on

You are not telling the truth. An atheist would never say to a kid that he should be good because of the "police". The reason to be good is morality, moral principles. But morality is the invention of humanity, not a gift from gods. That's where we disagree with you religious people. In my opinion, morality and religion have nothing in common.

My kids were never taught morality at the threat of retribution by police or a God.

They were taught morality through example, experience, and empathy. And if they strayed from ethical behavior, they were taught to seek forgiveness by 1. Taking personal responsibility for the act 2. voicing sincere appology to those harmed 3. Restoring the loss, and 4. making Sincere effort never to repeat it. They neither seek nor expect forgiveness by simply asking for it from an unaffected third party, human or diety.

They are taught that actions forced (or supressed) by retribution from a supreme being, be it police or God, is only a basic form of compliance, not morality.

And they would never judge the existence of another's morality by their choice of faith. That would be immoral.

Dawkins is purely a Commentator , he stands proud because of the fact the 1st to element out that Atheism purely isn't an option to religious concept , yet its antithesis . I dont think in the tooth fairy , nor in Santa Claus , nor in the preposterous mish-mash of historical center-eastern faith that was cobbled jointly by ability of way of St Paul , and has been bowlderised and altered ever because of the fact , Nor do i believe interior the extra logical single deity of the Jews or of Islam , whilst Buddhism and Taoism furnish morality codes , and Hinduism primitive polytheism . this is all bunkum via people who cant get carry of that they are purely one extra completely unimportant existence form and jointly as you die you end to stay and exist . ought to as sturdy be fearful of the darkish .

the real question is what defines good.

as shakespeare said, "there is no good or bad, but thinking makes it so."
