30 inches is a commonly used number.

You could look up the manufacturer and model number on the Internet and find the user manual. It should tell you the manufacturer's recommendation.

Another thought is that combustible objects should be far enough away that they will not hit the wall furnish if they topple.

As long as you don't block the blower outlet or the intake the furnace should be safe.

I had one of these for years.
