Not a great deal is wrong with the instructions if you know the person that has given them.
You will know immediately what type of input the program will need and what is acceptable. You will also know how to present the output in a way that is acceptable.

If you do not know the person and you get it wrong then you will be sent back and forth to recreate the program. If you do not redesign the program each time then you could end up with a complete muddle of code that you and anyone else will not be able to understand in a months time.

But of course you will not need to worry about any of this because you are just starting out on your course and you are about to fail because you have not been listening in class.
If you are not prepared to take the time to concentrate and learn then drop the course and find something that you are good at and that you enjoy.

Have fun.
