It is extremely rare to be shaved or have an enema nowadays. They used to shave to prevent bacterias from hiding in the pubis hair, then getting to the newborn baby. Now they know that it is more dangerous to shave the woman as little cuts occur with any shaving and so causes bacteria to get in the woman. An enema was used to avoid feces from getting on the baby in the event a woman moved her bowels while pushing. Now they use pads underneath to catch any waste and whisk it away as soon as it comes out, thus avoiding feces on the baby. Also, enemas are painful and there's no need to add to labor pains!

Enemas are usually nonexistent in this day and age. I have had 3 babies all by c-section and never had an enema. Foley Catheters are used. If pushing, usually they will do a "quick cath" to empty the bladder. If a c-section they usually do a catheter once you have had the epidural or spinal. When shaved that is for a c-section. They shave the area just above and on your pubic bone closest to where they will do the incision. HTH! And try not to worry!

They don't shave anymore for a vaginal delivery. My doc only ordered an enema for my last birth. I laughed at the nurse and asked if he got pooped on....she giggled and said yes. I refused the enema on the grounds that it was uncomfortable and he gets paid well enough to get pooped on sometimes. She laughed again and left the room. I didn't do the enema. I also didn't poop on him...dangit...

You never get shaved any more. They used to do that for sanitary reasons, but now they just swab you down with disinfectant if they feel you need it (maybe for c-sections? i don't remember getting disinfectant)... And enemas are never done unless you insist on it. People insist on it when they feel it'll keep them from pooping during delivery, but in reality it makes things much worse!!!

Depends on what is it related to!!!
If for sexual reasons lots of people do it for cosmetic and sanitary!! Shaved is better to lick and suck plus there's no dental floss!!!!!! Enema's are used to clean the rectum and avoid accidents while on rectal intercourse!!
If for medical reasons like having baby shaved 1 or 2 days prior (give time for any cuts to heal) prevents any bacteria or virus development on the hair which may then pass on to the baby and the enema will clean the rectum to help minimizing or avoid unnecessary spills while contractions are on!!! Also enemas are used to avoid constipation and keep the system functioning properly!!!

They may shave you if you are having a c-section, but if you are having a vaginal birth you should ask them not to. If you get a small cut from the shaving, it could get irritated and infected from all the fluids from birth.
As for an enema, again, you could ask them not to. They usually just do it to save the nurses clean up work. Tell them you feel strongly about not having one.

IF they shave you, it will only be right around the vaginal opening..so few doctors do this anymore anyhow...so I would not be worried.
as for the enema..they will give you one if you are extremely constipated and that is hindering you progressing in your labor. again, few doctors do this anymore, so I would not be worried.
