I have a few questions about the movie:

What was with the $50 and the powder room? I didn't exactly get that. Tell me the deal with that.

Then, what exactly was with the prison visits? She went to visit the prisoner, got a code, told the "lawyer" and got $100, but are they some kind of code for something? He's a part of the mophia right? Elaborate on that if you can.

And last, do you think they named the cat at the end of the movie? Do you think they stayed in New York? I cried at the end.

Holly earned her living by being an "escort"--female company, you might say. Rather than getting a salary, she got a large "tip" (under the guise of having money to tip the powder room attendant); so, $50 for the powder room was her "pay".

Visiting the prison, Holly was an unwitting (or uncaring) message carrier between her mobster friend and his lawyer. She relayed the "weather report" (a coded verbal message) back and forth, and got a $100 tip for that.

I think that "Cat" stayed "Cat"--Cat didn't seem to mind, and it fitted his personality. Whether or not Holly and her friend stayed together in New York, who can say?--perhaps they did for awhile. But Holly never did like staying in one place...and never liked being crowded...

$50 'for the powder room' is a way of saying that Holly expected to be paid for spending time with gentleman. There is some slight suggestion that Holly slept with her clients and the 'powder room' bit was a euphanism for payment for sex (because it is illegal to sell sexual favours). However, if she could get out of it she would.

Holly was acting as an information courier for Sally Tomato. She visited him in gaol, got the code (which of course she did not understand), passed it on, word for word, to the solicitor, who would pay her for her time. I guess this was because the prison authorities might not suspect a young lady of being involved in crime.

Your last question is an excellent one, and I have not ever given it any thought, but I think yes, maybe Holly and Paul did name the cat...maybe Doc, Sally but most likely Fred.

Don't know whether they stayed in NY.
