Mark Twain was the pen name for Samuel Langhorne Clemens (born in Missouri November 30, 1835 – died April 21, 1910). He was an American humorist, writer, lecturer, satirist who also worked on a newspaper, worked as a printer and pursued a career as a steamboat pilot. He was an excellent writer and quite witty.

He wrote Tales of Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer, Life on the Mississippi, owned a newspaper, was a river pilot on the Mississippi River (Mark Twain, was a call to the pilot when the Lubber line, the OLD way of determining the depth of the water, it referred to the second knot on the line. this was the depth at which most boats are in danger of running aground.).

It was Mark Twain's wit and wisdom that gets him most remembered. For those who visit the west coast you'll appreciate his comment regarding the weather here in San Francisco;
