My friend asked me this question...haha. He's in a different math course, and I can't figure it out, which is kind of bad..but help, please?

You are building a walkway of uniform width around a 100 foot by 60 foot swimming pool. After completing the walkway. you want to put a fence along the outer edge of the walkway. You have 450 feet of fencing to enclose the walkway. What is the maximum width of the walkway?

The perimeter of the swimming pool is 100*2 + 60*2 = 320
so there is 130 extra

the walkway adds 8 times the width -
so the maximum width is 16.25 feet

suppose, the width is x
.....2{(60+x)(100+x)}=450

=>x=32.5m
