Because sometimes we are. We come across as brash and uppitty to some countries, because we are seen as this rich nation that can't take care of it's own trying to tell the rest of the world how to live. How do you point a finger at China or North Korea about human rights issues and have Guantanimo Bay, people living on the streets, starving children, and a medical system that can turn people away for not paying for issurance when they barely make enough to feed their own family. That's why!

Do you really believe that there is no other person on this earth equal to a American. Don't you think that is a little big headed. The people in many other countries are more educated than Americans. Our kids are keep from learning all they can learn in our government public school. The reason is so the government can control each and everyone of our kids as they grow up and become puppets for the government. If you think the United States is a free country than you better get your head out of the sand. Statutory Law is not the law of a free country.
Example:
The Constitution of the United States states you have the right to travel. This means you don't need a license to travel. If you drive your car without a license you will go to jail (Statutory Law).
A license permits you to do something that is legal under the Constitution but not under Statutory Law. Now less see Mr. American what else do you need license to do that is legal under the Constitution.
1) Run a bussness
2) Pay unlawful taxes
3) Settle a dispute without a lawyer
4) Build your house without a lecense
5) Own a firearm without a permit.
6) Buy a car without a driver license
7) Work without a Social Security Number
8) Under the Constitution it is unlawful to pay taxes on wages.
9) Be free to travel without fear of a policeman stopping you
10) Unlaw to allow a person to choose to die of his own
free will.
Yes this is the United States of America
sorry that is incorrect!
Yes this is the United States incorporated.
You are subject to the corporate law not the law of the Constitution unless you are one of the Sovereign Citizens.
Are you??????

Probably because America is not the best.
Here are some major negatives.
George Bush (both of them)
Total lack of gun control
an insanely litigious society
Incredible violence
The in ability to deal with disaster areas like Katrina
A blindness to what America does to people and Countries around the world that make people mistrust or hate America
A lack of education, understanding or interest in or about the rest of the world
A attitude toward the planet that should make all Americans at the very least embarrassed
A voting system that is so not democratic and so disorganised that it is see as a joke in the rest of the world.........
I could go on and write a book but that is enough for now!
By the way I am an American in Australia.

Because some Americans are loud, arrogant, boarish braggarts. The ones that are mindful are the ones that get tortured by these cretins everyday, especially on yahoo answers.

"Best"?!?!? Best at what?
America COULD be the greatest country in the world. America COULD stand as a pillar of secular democracy and enlightenment values. America COULD be a shining beacon to the oppressed everywhere.
But to do THAT, we would have to make human rights, justice and freedom the cornerstone of our foreign policy!
When have we ever done that? I have no doubt that the American people would like to pursue such a policy, but as long as we continue to support people like Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden WHEN IT SERVES OUR PURPOSES, then why should we expect anyone to take seriously all our talk about freedom and democracy?!?
As long as we continue to place our short term interests - especially corporate profit, strategic positioning, etc. - above our righteous ideals, then we will sadly be viewed as yet one more self-serving empire whose only interest in democracy and freedom is in empty rhetoric vainly spouted by ourselves and our allies.
Only when we hold ourselves and our allies to same moral, ethical and legal standards to which we hold our enemies will anyone take seriously our commitment to establishing a better world.

Like Yogie Barra said...it ain't braggen if you can do it.
I see a lot of answers from people who just brimming with hate for their country. This is one reason why teaching true history is so important. This country has some skeletons in its closet that we would rather not look at.....ALL countries do..we have fewer then most though....it takes a miserable person to focus ONLY on the bad and ignore the wonderful heritage...the personal freedoms ...the right for them to spew their hateful answers and not worry of being taken out of their homes at night never to be seen again...its EASY to second guess, ***** and complain...that to me is a sign of weakness, of being spoiled beyond belief....why don't all you weak complainers pick yourselves up, toughen up and be ADULTS for a change....maybe your opinion of this great country will change for the better.

People should not compare their countries to other nations unless they spent more than 3 years in a foreign country. You just sound ignorant if you can't understand those cultures.
And living in a military base or a consulate does not count... or a corporate compound for that matter (like in Iraq or Saudi).

I usually ask them casually, "So when exactly is your pathetic excuse for a country is going to send men to the Moon, plant your country's flag, and bring them back to earth?"
Remind them that their inferior nation has yet to master inter-Lunar space travel, so they aren't really even in our league
