People of those days looked at it very differently. Some people might have been relieved to have been bought as surviving on their own might have been harder than merely looking after someone in exchange for being fed ,clothed and housed. Some slaves loved their owners and were treated well by them. However surely the opposite occurred. Today many people are still slaves to mortgages , rent and an unhealthy lifestyle. However I think in those times I probably would have been a slave given my ancestry. Today we respect human rights and have no need to "own" somebody. However I think that most people are "owned" by the banks.

I think their is a big difference between slaves and servants or maids. Although some very mean people might treat them the same.
I would never have owned slaves. I couldn't have woken up to myself in the morning if i ever did. But paying a servant or maid and treating them good, I would definitely not be against. I mean if they are getting paid good wages for their work and are treated good and aren't required to do anything wrong or illegal, I'd say it would probably work for both of us!!

Nope!
I just finished my genealogy and discovered my family was way to poor to be guilty of owning slaves.
Besides you didn't need slaves to be waited on hand and foot. Many people kept paid servants. So hey who knows you could always win the lotto.

No, the simple thought of me "owning" a human being is sickening. A human is a free being. Some people enjoy cleaning for a living..but thats their choice.

Given my ancestors, if I were around in Roman times, I probably would have been a slave.

I don't think that people even have 24 hour butlers anymore.
If you want a slave, get a husband; I am a slave to my wife.
