I have a neighbor whose pet painted turtles are over 30 years old. Mine are about 3 right now and they bite too, don't automatically assume that just because it bites, it's a snapping turtle. Snapping turtles will draw blood, or, if they're bigger, take fingers.
Pet turtles can be a lot of fun, but they are a long-term commitment. And if you caught it from the wild, odds are it's carrying some parasites, so be careful and have a vet who specializes in reptiles take a look at it.

Turtles can outlive us if they are treated properly in captivity. In the wild if they escape predators they can live a long healthy life as well...Normally when a turtle bites it is trying to tell you something...it is aggravated, stressed or hungry....They hiss as well if they feel threatened!!

The large tortoises from the Galapagus Islands can live more than 200 years. Some American box turtle have been documented at over 100 years old. Some sea turtles probably live 75 years or more. The common pet, the red-eared slider, can live 40 years or more if they receive good care.

Hope this helps

Depends on the species, of course, but with turtles, you can predict they will live for several decades.

At least 50 years with proper care and diet.

There are galapagos tortoises living in the San Diego Zoo that are over 150 years old.
