there's not many draw backs in a front wheel drive car,they go real good in bad weather,and hold up very well,a lot of it depends on the make and model of the car though,but front wheel drive cars are ok,there's a lot of them on the roads now,good luck on it.

Front wheel drive car are limited on space under the hood because the engine, transmission, and drive axles all have to fit in the same spot. As a result, engine sizes are smaller ( I can't think of a Front Wheel Drive car w/ a V8 engine). Alos, repair costs can be more expensive because if something breaks in that cramped space under the hood, it will take more work to get to it. Other than that, FWD cars are just fine and typically handle better in adverse weather conditions (it'll be your best friend in the snow).

a few drawbacks to front drive cars;
most front drive cars suffer from torque steer
they suffer from terminal understeer under hard cornering
the engine compartment is cramped as the entire drivetrain is packed in up front. this makes routine maintenance difficult at best
because the entire drivetrain is located up front, the weight distribution is rather screwed up, you want to get as close to 50/50 as possible
advantages to front drive cars;
they do well in bad weather
they are usually lighter in weight as they tend to be smaller than front engine rear drive cars.
they have more interior room that rear drive cars
and for family guy, you forget the olds toronado, cadillac eldorado, third generation taurus sho, the late model lincoln towncar, and others are V8 front drive cars.

I used to have a dodge neon ( still have it, dont drive it) and the car would handle well however it was prone to understeer ( Car would continue to go straight even though your turning the wheel) but other then that they are productive cars...I would prefer a rear wheel drive car but My suggestion to you is .....go for it

To my knowledge, the drawbacks far outweigh the benefits. I can't even think of a drawback.
