A number of years ago, Albertson's began to buy up other supermarket chains, including Lucky's in Northern California and Shaw's in Northeast U.S., in an effort to expand into other markets. However, this plan failed and Albertson's started to sell off it's acquisitions. Their Northern California division was sold to Save Mart. However, Save Mart did not want to close its existing stores. So, Save Mart decided to rename the Albertson's back to their original Lucky's name, which gave them brand recognition from Lucky's old customers.
