I think I just had an epiphany and noticed that only people with low intelligence complain about other people. They have nothing better to do but complain and whine about how people mistreat them. What does everyone else think?

I read an interesting quote by Eleanor Roosevelt:

"Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."

I think that you have a point there, but not all philosophies apply in reality, even smart people get mistreated by other people because they're different you know, sometimes, the ones who mistreats are the ones who have the low average intelligence, because they're just too immature and idiotic to realize that simple fact, not to mention insecure.

I like the quote - it puts me between a small minded and average minded person, but I'm a sociologist at heart. People create ideas and without them and event is non-existent so I can't say I agree 100%. People with low tolerance complain - has nothing to do with intelligence. Now, how you complain (whether it's witty and sarcastic or involves outright rage and profanity)- I think that's a better standard of intelligence. Thanks for giving me something to think about though.

Not really. I have a friend who is a really smart guy - great with computers and math, big reader of books, excellent grades in university etc... but about 10 years back he was really depressed and it seemed he couldn't stand most people. But then he gradually got to be a happier person and seemed to like people a whole lot more. I don't think his IQ changed any. I don't even think the loftiness of his thoughts has changed; he's always been kinda idealistic. But I think his emotional brain chemistry changed.

i dont think that just because someone complains about another human being that it makes them any less intelligent. people complain for many different reasons such as they do not like someones actions such as people always complaining about the president. I think complaining is annoying which everyone does it so i think that if only less intelligent people complain then we must all be pretty un intelligent because everyone at some point in their life has complained about something or someone.

Well, I consider myself a smart person and so does everyone else that I know. I complain about something if it is annoying to me, such as stupid people who make stupid choices. Other stupid people would just agree with the others and join them. I think everyone complains about other people for some reason, but it's all about how you do it.

A small mind does not necessarily means a "dumb" person....

I work with some incridebly smart people, but many don't have social skills, or have what i consider to be "small minds"...

Well....the idea of discussing others seems stupid to me, but there are a lot of young kids here and they're insecure.
