Try a system restore to the date when sound was working. However if you did a reformat or Windows reinstallation, you need to install all drivers including the soundcard driver.

There are several answers/solution to this question depending on what happened.

Have you checked to see if the mute button was accidentally turned on? If you have Windows XP check in the Volume Control to see if the Wave Volume is down, make sure thats all the way up.

But try doing this.....

Click Start
Click Run
type "devmgmt.msc" without the quotation marks
Then expand "Sound, video, and game controllers"
Then find your sound device, right click on it, click disable. Then enable it. See if that solves your issue. If not write back.

Sorry, I have windows Vista, i dont know what your device manager looks like, it might be different if you have windows xp. I havent accessed the device manager on windows xp for a long time :D
