You have no need to be afraid of thunder. It's just a lot of noise.

It's the lightning which generates the thunder - that's the dangerous portion due to massive electrical energy. It can electrocute you, burn you (or start fires), and send a sudden charge through your house's electrical wiring (zapping all of your nifty home electronics) or even plumbing (which is why it's not a good idea to shower during a T-Storm.).

But, given all of this danger, thunderstorms are SO cool to watch, don't you think?

According to many references in ancient tamil literatures,cobras are frightened by lightning and thunder.Even though snakes don't have ears, probably the earth's surface vibrations due to thunder frighten them as they can sense our movement with vibrations created on the surface when we walk near them. But there is no scintific proof about the frightening due to thunder.
