I mean sure, curves are great and yes, thinness has been overemphasized in the past, but come on, people act so ignorant and immature about this matter. Do they really think the best way to show women all body types are attractive is to attack the type that as been idealized in the past? So now everyone is attractive, EXCEPT skinny women?
I'm tired of hearing size 0 and seeing picture of Nicole Richie in the bikini and a 6 ft tall model that dropped dead because she was starving herself. In reality, size 0 is a size worn most often by perfectly healthy, attractive women. It's sad when someone who is a size 12 thinks they can starve themselves down to a 0 and look good, cuz that's just not the case. There are different body types, and I'm tired of being insulted so that larger or more average sized women can feel better about themselves.
The media has always fed us bs, why do people think this is any different?

No one get mad at me, cuz it always happens whenever I bring this up. I'm not trying to be disrespectful, just trying to get people to put some thought into this.

I agree with your opinion, but you're a little off base in some of your statements.
I'm going to do some Scientific/History rambling (A little piece of my Size Activism: Read it if you want to kill a little time), but I want you to seriously consider my answer.
The thiness obsession was striked up in the late 1800s. Before that, the larger figure was deemed attractive through history. There's much anthropological and historical evidence that validates this notion.
Anyway: Part of the reason it came up was:
A. The deduction of fat=gluttony, which is a sin. (I'll save that debate for another day, but that's simply incorrect), by a Christian at that time. You can throw in BMI as well (It was made around the same time), but again: It has more to do with how people interpret it. BMI doesn't determine health: It's an attempt at comparing body statstics to sociology of the 1800s, and our lovely doctors still want to use it as a barometer of health.
B. "Western Standards of Beauty" i.e. Hollywood. They drew in the thiness obsession at full force, but they are always going between things:
Gee....I never realized Britney Spears was obese, until I saw all the articles about her performance. I guess that means at 5'11", and 154 pounds: I'm a whale. Then they get ******* mad because Anorexia goes up in droves because of **** like this. They're ******* stupid! They're the reason it's ******* rising! :p
On another note: Anorexia isn't a bodyweight. It's a psychological disorder that causes poor body image attributed to the notion that one is fat (And thusly unattractive). One of common (Not always) symptoms of it is a low bodyweight of some sort. I think the term for that is "Anorectic," but I haven't researched it enough.
(This wasn't for you: It's for the morons that pull the "ZOMG Wtf ur anorexic" **** on you)
It is very wrong, and I will agree with you on that. The obsession is definitely driving some women into various eating disorders (Anorexia, Bullimia, Orthorexia to name a few), but people don't take statistics correctly, so they unfortuately will say that all women that are a size 0 aren't women.
Now:
With either case of extremes of weight, there's people in those groups that fufill the stereotypes associated with them. However, people are dumbasses these days (And think their opinions are backed by Science [They are: When they aren't stupid enough to generalize! :P]) , and instead of simply realizing that some people within those groups live unhealthy lifestyles (Which would be the reason they are killing themselves: Not their respective weight in itself necessarily) that are likely to shorten life, people generalize the whole group as having that trait. That's biased, prejudice, and rude: And this goes for thin women like yourself, and larger women.
Weight is highy genetic, and not all people are a certain weight due to lifestyle (Since the percentage of which has a stronger effect depends on the person [And I'm sure you and some of the other girls here that commented that are near that size aren't anorexic, nor are you starving yourself])). That's the simple comment needed to crush all the points that the smart people will bring up about it. Weight is not a good barometer of health: Lifestyle is better than weight (It's still not the best), and to associate a weight with always determining health in itself because one assumes bodyweight and lifestyle are almost synonymous is almost as stupid as Hollywood berating women who are a size 0 by claimng they are OMG anorexic, and calling women who are a size 8 "Curvy" (As if curves are directly correlated with weight anyway...PFFT.. bigots!) at the same damn time. It's bullshit based on the assumption that if you aren't somewhere in the middle: You're living unhealthy.
Right... because I can determine someone's lifestyle by seeing them in a computer screen. I IZ OMNIPOTENT! LOOK AT MY ANGLE WINGZ....
On the basis of sheer numbers, there's way more fat hatred than thin hatred (And that's why in my activism, I definitely have a lean towards larger people [I'm still defending thin people, and the unhealthy thin/fat too now: I'm thin for pete sake: That'd be counterintuitive, and counterempathic if I didn't! LOL! :P]), BUT neither hatred is valid in itself. Stories like this that are brought up, are one of the reasons why I am a Size Activist fighting for everyone of any size: Size 00 and above.
The thiness obessession hasn't gone away, but there's an increasing trend of fat hatred, and thinness hatred: Both of which are wrong. Everyone (Including some "Specialists") tries to pull the line "OMG U HAV TO B btween a size 0 and a size 12 in order 2 b healthy," which is so inaccurate in itself, it isn't funny.
You have the right to live the way you wish, and even if healthy living doesn't make put you somewhere within what our society considers a healthy range: you have every right to get mad at them for being bigots. Maybe some of them will realize that your weight might just be genetic, and even if it weren't: You still have the right to live whatever way you so wish.
Hollywood, the media, and our government to some extent are the reason that disorders occur on both sides: They want us to hate our bodies, so they can recieve financial gain of some sort, and that's not weight dependent.
As a man (Manly speaking [Just the whole perspective of what I find attracitve]), I increasingly validate the notion that I find women attractive at all sizes. That's not some Hollywood crap either: I don't think a Size 6 is "Curvy," and I don't freak out at the site of a size 0. Women can be beautiful at all sizes, and there's no reason for people to sit here and pull the unhealthy card: Don't accept it, because real people know negative feedback doesn't get anywhere anyway.
I heard this line from a friend:
"Real women have VAGINAS!
Curves are optional." ^_^
Live with that one! Ok?
And no Trash Cat: They're making the standard lower every decade. Considering the fact that the average person this day in age is average weight (2.5 billion people are starving, 2.5 billion are thin, and the other one billion are not), your statement has on backing.
Good luck.

No, I understand what you're saying. I have a sister that is five-foot tall, very petite. Her bone structure is very small compared to mine. She wears a Size 2, I think, but looks healthy. She just is a petite woman and has a smaller bone structure. I myself weigh 140 pounds but can wear a size 4 or 6 jeans. It's all dependent on bone structure and body type, how you distribute weight. You can tell when someone looks unhealthy. That's the six-foot models that wear a size 0. Now, that's a problem.

it's just the focus on the "ideal woman" is not thin but skinny
which is unrealistic
some women are thin, skinny, etc. many are not yet it is the unrealistic images that society embraces
time to see that all women need to be recognised as of worth in the eyes of the public. maybe those actually starving to reach the "size 0" will be more satisfied with a healthy size for themselves

Here here! I could not agree more, I want people to know that it is extreamly rude and hurtful to go up to someone and say, " My God, why don't you eat?" There is nothing wrong with thin people, we are perfectly healthy, this is the way we are. I am a size 0, but I eat plenty, in fact, my nickname is Cow. Those who judge on apperance need to take a look at themselves in the mirror. Most of them are hypocrites, seeing someone over weight and saying, " Oh, they're fat." Then turn around to see someone who is thin, " No, too skinny." There is NO SUCH THING as a perfect weight, shape or height. Everyone is different, and different does not mean bad.

i am! Real women also come in size zeros!! It's just a saying to put us skinny girls down i guess. It looks healthy on me cuz i'm 5'1" so i don't know why some people hate. If you are 5'11" then it would be unhealthy, but on us short girls it looks natural and healthy

Well try too look at the stand point for a skinny male. I myself am very skinny, and in society people really lookd own on skinny males. When someone comments me on my size it offends me like going up to an overweight person and calling them fat. I never chose to be this skinny, I eat so much but still cant gain a pound. I feel like I am cursed with this. It agrovates me so much that someone has to comment me on my size, like I already dont know? Its a hard world out there lol

Amen sister! I used to wear a size 0 in high school and everyone thought I had this 'secret eating disorder', when in reality I could out eat the entire football team....true story.
Hey...just be happy with yourself. Fat, skinny, chubby and average. If you don't like whatcha look like...improve yourself. Eat healthier, excercise, eat a big fat cheeseburger with fries etc. Do whatever the hell you want....you only live once...make the best of it!

Yes those people are crazy!
But in the media their job is to market what they want to and make money, which they are, and as long as they continue making money and people buy their sh!t, whatever they say will have the most power.
As long as she's at a healthy weight for her height, size shouldn't matter.

I feel you! I'm a size 2, with kind of a slim boyish build. If "real women have curves" does that mean I'm not a real woman?? It's all just propaganda to make fat girls feel better about themselves, when in fact carrying as little as ten extra pounds isn't healthy for your joints, heart, etc. Granted, Nicole Ritchie looks gross at 86 pounds, and I'm not advocating that either. But it's important to be a healthy weight, and overweight isn't! Plus, a poll in Cosmo asked men if they'd rather a woman have big boobs and kind of a chubby stomach, or tiny boobs and a flat stomach. The vast majority of men preferred the flat stomach. So, SUCK IT, "REAL WOMEN"!!!
