When a calculator reports "322.280", the "280" is not a remainder. It's simply the digits following the decimal point. Calculators do not report remainders, they report exact answers, correct to the precision of the calculator (often 10 to 14 digits).

Additionally a remainder should always be expressed as a fraction of the divisor. If you do long division and get a remainder of 179, write this:
"322 remainder 179/639"

You'll note that 179/639 = 0.280...

Putting the remainder after the decimal point is NOT correct practice, and will confuse anyone who looks at it.

The remainder is 179.
The .280 that comes out in the calculator doesn't represent the exact remainder. It represents the actual remainder in a decimal form.
Jus like if you divide 28/3 for example, the answer is 9 remainder 3. But in the calculator it comes out a 9.3333333 not 9.1
I hope this helped.

Your answer is 322 with a remainder of 179 (not 322.179)

322*639 + 179 = 205937

The answer with the calculator is 322.280 to 3 decimal places which is 322 280/1000. 280 is NOT the remainder.

322*639 + 280/100 * 639 = 205936.92 which is close to 205937.

also, 0.280 times 639 equals 178.92, almost your
remainder of 179.
