I was in British Columbia, with Cadets and we were out doing this camping thing and I saw these things that look like grasshoppers with big stingers. I remember driving by Ocanogan lake on the way there, and these things were like 10x the size of most grass hoppers. I havent been able to find them anywhere on the internet so if anyone knows tell me. If you need more info I might be able to add more to this.

( maybe not 10x the size but fairly large) they were green and were every were. They didnot appear to have any wings, and they had the same large buggy eyes. That is about as much as I can remember about them.

Also I think the thing on the end was a fairly thick size, Ith like went from a wide bass to a pint.

What you saw probably was a grasshopper. Most grasshoppers have wings but they vary in size and some are really hard to see because they are either quite small and/or blend well into their bodies. Some grasshoppers have an elongated sac at the end of their bodies that secrets a toxic chemical onto the leaves of the plants they eat that warns other insects away. Perhaps that was what you mistook for a stinger.

Check out the Differential grasshopper, 5th one down in the pictures.

Also this on shows their size compared other grasshoppers:

Since this may not be it, this site gives lots of pictures for you and you Cadets to look over:

Hope this helps.

Okay, look at this site and note the cricket located at center top. I don't know how large it gets, but it has a love ovipositer which could be what you are mistaking for a stinger. I don't know about British Colombia grasshoppers, but here In Oklahoma they can get pretty big so when you say 10x I picture a monster grasshopper. So, if this is not your buggie then could you provide a more detailed description? It would be much appreciated.

I don't know but they sound scary. You could try the What's That Bug? website and see if they have a picture. If you have one, you could send it to them and they could probably identify it for you. Good luck.
