the larger is 30, the smaller is 18
x=larger
y=smaller
2/5x-6=1/3y
x-y=12
so..
y=x-12
and
2/5x-6=1/3(x-12)
2/5x-6=1/3x-4
1/15x=2
x=30
30-y=12
y = 18

x-y=12
2/5x-(1/3y)=6
you use those 2 equations comparatively to solve the question
