First ,where's your FICO scores with each of the 3 main credit companies Equifax, Transunion,Experian?
Are you trying to build your credit? If you are ,on the one you want to drop, don't close it.Simply make sure you make a purchase of at least $10 per month and pay it off. This will kept your top rating .This will still be reported to the 3 credit companies. As paid on time.
Then simply, start using the other for more important uses.Pay each on time!
If you drop the old.It takes 3months for your score to go back up.
Have you made sure no one can look into your credit history, except those companies you have given your direct permission to look into to get a credit card.
Like if I owe a clothing store,I can look to see what your credit score is .and start sending you my store's pre-approved card.Which pulls down your score.(i can't see any other personnal information).Other companies sell your information,so they can get you to have each of their own cards.
Also, put your telephone # on the "no call registry".helps protect identity much better.
Take care and good luck!
P.S. In the U.S. ,we get one free "credit history" per year.
Good Luck!

If the new card is with the same issuer they can help you by transferring your credit limit to the new card. If it is a different company, they longer you've had card the better so if you have had the one you want to cancel less than a year it counts against you as they assume your flipping a balance to the new card. If you want the new card you can call and get info about it and they can do a light hit on your credit report to get an idea of your chances that you have just the way your credit is now. It may take a couple months for the card issuer to notify the credit bureaus that you cancelled a card. Good Luck

Rather you apply and close or close and apply, in the end it is the same. Closing should only take ten minutes on the phone, so go ahead and close a card first before applying for another. Since you don't use the card anyway, there is no loss.

except your spouse provides permission to realize this the lenders won't have the capacity to speak to you approximately her account by way of fact it incredibly is her debt and not yours. as quickly as you have dealt with that i'm helpful that they had be happy to settle. yet another element you spouse ought to do to hose down using for brand spanking new enjoying cards is positioned a credit lock on her document so as that any new credit must be authorized by capacity of her which in many circumstances capacity a telephone call and/or letter before the applying would be fulfilled. that would make her think of two times. you're able to have a heart to heart along with her approximately how she's affecting the enjoyed ones funds and no not something she does will impact your very own credit status. She incredibly needs to get her act collectively.

A big part of your credit rating is set on the ratio of available to used credit.
By leaving the card active (you really should use it once every six months or so, just pay it at the next statement so you don't pay interest), it actually improves your credit rating. You have already proven you are credit smart, so no harm no foul.

Credit can be a good thing as long as it is used properly. I would wait until you have to close this account to get a larger credit amount. Closing credit cards is sometimes a pain and they try not to get you to close the account. Good Luck.
