Aren't Christians supposed to be honest, so why can't I be honest about the errors in the Bible without people calling me an unbeliever. Would I be a believer if I lied and claimed the Bible contains no lies or distortions, when every Christian who is honest with himself knows they exist in fairly large numbers?

People call you an unbeliever for not blindly agreeing with something you see as questionable?
Those people are just stubborn and thick-headed; and you're smarter than them.

Distortions, yes, I can agree on that point because many years lapsed between an occurrence and it's recording. Also, each book of the NT is told from one person's point of view, and no matter what happens, there will be as many stories as there are witnesses and everyone thinks their own is the only true tale.

I may be wrong, but I think people could be getting upset with you over your word choice - nobody likes to be called a liar or be told that words they have grown up believing are a lie. You could also be getting static for possibly having a know-it-all attitude, when you are dealing with documents that are over a thousand years old, translated and re-translated through Aramaic, Hebrew, Latin, German, and then English and so how can you possibly claim to know what parts are truth, what parts have been distorted, and what parts are out-and-out lies?

Just relax a little, sit back and let people believe what they believe. You don't have to educate the whole world about your point of view. Nothing bad is going to happen if someone doesn't believe exactly what you believe.

For most people, I think it may be the fact that you are concentrating on a bunch of tiny irrelevant things, while missing the whole picture. Of course there are plenty of things wrong in it: it was an oral tradition for quite a few years (decades? centuries?). People expanded the parts they thought was important, making it more interesting, to their point of view. Probably changed a few things to suit their tastes. But the story as a whole is what's important.

Of course, there are some people who do believe that every detail in it is true. They probably object because they might think that if one tiny little detail was false, the entire thing would be false. But I think they might be missing the point with that.

well, u just called the bible a lie, how can u believe in a lie?

not saying anything about your system here, just pointing out what i just read.

why do you have to question the bible? why can't it just be? it was written by men trying to understand god. maybe they werent lying. and if any of it is a lie, wouldnt the resurrection be the most glaring of all lies? if thats true, how could u believe in christ?

That's the problem with Christians... They're not very Christian like. How can you believe in a loving accepting God with them as representatives?

not untruths or whatever you are saying. you can not interpret the bible that is for the scholars to do. we are playing with fire when you do that. their stories are for a reason and don't mean exactly what you read. that is known for many years but you are on track sorta. good luck
