They have found over 4,400 weapons caches, which would include - explosives devices, guns, ammunition etc, etc.
They have quelled the ethno-sectarian violence in the Anbar Province area over the past 6 months to 90 attacks per month from 170, the above mentioned weapons finds would explain this.
They know that Al-Qaeda remains a dangerous threat to the region, mostly from the insurgency provided by Iran ... which was one of the more disappointing factors in the war against Terrorism.
They do know that it pays not to look too far ahead into the future, that, in itself is the most dangerous move one can take, because no one can possibly predict what might happen, and that's why it pays to remain in the region; We must never cosider surrender, for that would lead to chaos and severe implications to the area, the Iraqi government even said this, and General Paetraus stated it in his report.
Given the overall progress in the region ... a drawdown in Troop numbers could be expected within the first seven months of 2008, back to and equal to the pre-troop surge levels of 15 brigades by mid July 2008.
We also know that Osama bin laden will be dealt with.

The successes and failures can only be measured after the fact. There is no way he, nor anyone else, could ever put stock into saying he does know. At least if you say no now, you can say yes later. It's much harder turning a yes into a no.

Hillary said "I do not recall" so much at her hearing that it became a parity. Do you recall that or are you speaking of some Republican saying it.

I don't think that's within the realm of Petraeus's expertise. Why was he even asked that question?
