On the gas gauge is a little icon that looks like a gas pump....(I always thought it just told you which was the gas gauge) which ever side the hose is on, is the side your gas tank is on.

I have been in older cars and I'd love to know how to tell without getting out.

Cool question. In the newer cars there is a arrow that points to which side, but in the older cars I don't have a clue. Can't wait to find out the trick.

Usually its on the opposite side of the driving seat but how the hell would I know, I own a horse cart and do know where to feed the horse.
