and do i have to play the first disgaea 1 first to get the second one

I've never played Disgaea 2, but Dark Cloud 2 is one of my favorite games. It's an action RPG with cool weapons you watch evolve as they level up; you can invent different items, weapons, etc. using a fun "photography" system; you can build towns; there are fun minigames like fishing and spheda (it's similar to golf); and the battle system and targeting system is great. Well those 2 games are really different from each other. Disgaea is a strategy RPG which is more akin to Final Fantasy Tactics. Dark Cloud is more of a traditional RPG with a whole lot of side stuff to do. I would get both because they are great games, but if you could only choose one it would depend on what you like more. Strategy or turn based rpg style fighting.
To answer your second question no the 2 games don't connect too much so you won't have to know much from the first game although there are cameos that you may notice if you have played it.

Disgaea > Dark Cloud
That is, if you like strategy rpgs. Otherwise, you won't get much out of it.

My favorite ps2 game would have to be the Jak and Daxter series. They were so fun. The story was interesting and they were so funny. It was just fun to play. All the items and weapons just blows me away. The vehicles looked awesome too. I also like Ratchet and Clank. They have all these gadgets and they do wacky things. I also liked how in the third installment there was a place to play video games in the game. Dragonball Z is awesome. I'm a big fan of it and I knew the games wouldn't dissapoint. The Dragonball Z games have come to be the best fighting game in the whole world. Who doesnt play this?? My favorite DBZ game was Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3. These are my most favorite games for ps2, but if I had to choose one it would be Jak 3.
