She said it was because guys can do it, so why can't girls? (She also said that the drugs she had while in labor contributed.)
I don't have a problem with it, mostly because she's right. We wouldn't think anything if she'd had a boy and named him Christopher. (I mean, heck, my uncle is Robert (Bob), my cousin is Robert (Rob) and my second cousin is Robert (Robbie). Why is that so much better?)
(Oh, and the poster above me is right - Lorelai was named after her grandmother. I don't think that factored into the decision, as she didn't seem especially close to her grandmother, but maybe it did influence her a bit.)
