it means its an amd dualcore ... i think its 2ghz .. not a bad cpu alittle dated tho .. a 6000+ would be more up to date ..

It's a processor that has two cores. Hence the name, "dual core".

Each core runs at a speed of 2.0 GHz for the model that you're looking at. Don't let the 3800+ rating confuse you. AMD started using that naming scheme a long time ago when the Pentium 4 was still the best thing from Intel. 3800+ means that it would perform similar to a Pentium 4 single-core running at 3.8GHz, or so AMD claims.

I don't think you'll see that type of naming scheme much longer, especially when AMD comes out with their new line of CPUs soon.

Processor Speed: X2 3800+ / 2.00GHz
Processor Class: Athlon 64 X2
Cache Size: 1Mb
Bus Speed: 1000MHz (2000 MT/s)
Additional Technologies: HyperTransport
Architecture: 90 nm
Stepping: F2
Wattage: 89W
one of AMD's lower-end dual cores
the new 6400+ is the best (3.2GHz)
3800+ means that its approx. the same speed as an Intel 3.8GHz dual core

actually.
just so you know.
the person below doesn't know what he's talking about at all.
a 64 X2 means that the processor is a 64 bit, which means its a good processor.and the dual core means that its not exactly 2 different processors like many belive, its actually one processor with 2 cores to pass through as much data and information as if it were two.And while they do measure computer speed in mhz or ghz.You subtract 2000 from AMD's processors number and you get your speed,so your actual speed would be 1.8 ghz. While in theory you would run at 1.8 ghz x 2 which would mean your running at the equivalent of 3.6 ghz thats not always true.Because mine personally is a AMD 64 x 2 5000+
and it sure as hell doesn't run at an equivalent of 6.0 ghz.
hope this helps though.

Increase your performance by up to 80% with the AMD Athlon™ 64 X 2 Dual-Core processor. Work or play with multiple programs without any stalling or waiting. Dual-core technology is like having two processors, and two working together is better and faster than one working alone. what is wrong is that this processor liberates morre heat.

It's a dual core CPU made by AMD..

What exactly do you want to know about it? The number 3800 is there to represent what Intel processor it compares to (3.8Ghz). Although the AMD clock speed is slower than its Intel counterpart, performance-wise, it is approximately equal to a 3.8Ghz Intel dual core.

Dual core just means two independent processor cores on a single die.

It is about 2GHz but since it is dual core it seems faster.
I would buy a better processor though, get in the 4000 range or higher.
Make sure your L2 Cache is high and your GHz. The more the better.

Newegg has some great deals.

it's a type of processor ("brain") of the computer. Dual core is like having 2 brains so you can see that the performance would substantially increase. it seems like you're looking at a pretty good computer, but as of recently they offer quad core, but if you're just gonna type up reports and such, you definitely don't need that. that's usually for gamers which require high performance pc's
