how long does it take for the shot to be effective???
like how long do i have to wait before i'm safe

If you haven't gotten it yet, please don't get it!

The doctor should have told you when it will be effective.

Personally I'd use a condom for at least a week or two after getting the shot.

I also would reconsider getting the shot. http://www.rateitall.com/t-330-birth-control-methods.aspx and google "depo provera lawsuit" and research the shot thoroughly. TOO many women have too many serious health risks and negative side affects because of the shot.

It is effective right away. it does not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc. the shot also needs to be repeated every 3 months. check the following website for further info

All websites and my Dr. say immediately, but I find that hard to believe. I never let my boyfriend c u m inside me, so it's not really a big issue, but if you're going to, I'd say use a barrier methor (condom) for at LEAST a week.
