In our country, is it your opinion that those with the wealth hold a proportionate amount of power? I don't mean fleeting Hollywood million dollar income, I mean lasting wealth. Wealth like ownership of industries and resources.

If this is the case, that Wealth = Power, do you think that it is a good system, or could it stand to be improved?

No nastyness please, I'm just asking for opinions. Thanks! :)

YES, that is exactly what it means. No, it is not a good system because it is just common day "serf" system...I.E. Slaves.

Getting back to the ORIGINAL Constitution would help. If we did business with gold and silver currency like the Constitution said we would be better off. Did you know that in before the 1960s our dollar was backed by gold? Now, look at what it is backed by. It is to the left of the portrait on the front of the Bill. It states "Federal Reserve System" which is the Federal Reserves which is a BANK that creates money out of thin air!

Money doesn't equal power. Knowledge and will equals power. Knowledge being the biggest fuel to it if properly implemented. If money were power then Iraq and Afghanistan wouldn't have taken this long. Anybody elses analogy telling you otherwise is a bit flawed. Ever just stop to think of why we ever come up with a whole career field known as Information Technology? If money were power, then this field would have never been needed. Think about that one. Money in its true sense is a means of exchange. However today it is a tool of manipulation. Figure out whats causing the manipulation and fix it, then the tool that helped promote it is no longer needed for that purpose. Either that, or change the tool to where it can't be used for that purpose. iknow by me saying this it sounds like,in fact, money is power, However, how did i arrive at this conclusion? Through Knowledge. We the people are the power, we just want to have to implement our knowledge for better use. But believe what you will. All that i ask is possibly consider what i have written. If money was power, why do we have to pay to go to college? Because Knowledge isn't free. Though it could be, but we(as a whole)are still a little too primitive for that to occur. However we have advanced enough in technology to return to something(s) once used in the past. Could it bring a peaceful balance? Yes. But i'll let you figure out what that something(s) is as it does relate to your question, or at least one part of it anyways. Then maybe we could truly begin to advance without the worry of wars looming over us. Can't hurt to try.

Hell, yes ! It is considered a key trait to power. Money opens doors literally and figuratively. People can be bought easily, too.As sad as it is to write it, money in our society means better treatment all around. ( which means I am pretty much powerless, as I am not wealthy, BTW) Everything has a price. It is the motivating factor for so many evils. But, I'd take my chances ! Absolutely, in America money equals power. It's a very poor system that leads to things like invading a country on false pretenses with no plan for occupation or getting out.

How to fix it? Institute single term limits in the legislative branch, outlaw all lobbying and political party sponsorship of candidates.

I know the so-called free-market capitalist will scream bloody murder, but that's the only solution.

It's not just America, money rules the world. It makes the few men who hold the financial keys very wealthy and very powerful. Which it turns makes them very corrupted. It is a plutocracy, and it is a horrible system. The old fashion divide and conquer situation. The better system would have to get rid of all the central banks in the world, and start a dept free money system. It's common sense, but it's hard to defeat the powerful money masters.

Unfortunetly , you'r absolutely right , in America "the richest survives" and the poor guys, are just poor guys, cause they don't have a big fortune or a big fancy name, or a huge mansion with BMWs on their backyard, those people have to tair themselfs apart each and every day to bring food to their tables, and therefor they don't quite have a valuable opinion to the country where they live, however, the rich ones, they always have an influence on what is gong on, that is if they want to.

Max Weber defined 'power" as the ability to elicit the behavior you desire from others" (not necessarily willingly).

Money does confer the ability to get what one wants fromothers--often even when they do not wish to comply.

So, yes--in the US, or any other society at any time--money confers power. It's not the only source of power-and in some times andplaces, not even the greatest source. But money always means power.

Provided your talking about humans here, this is a universal, ageless truth: he/she who has the most of what everyone else wants, or the means to get the most of what everyone wants (i.e., $ in our current state of social evolution) always wields the most power.

As a competitive animal, it is a more civilized way to determine the hierarchy than other species use, but given our ability to reason, you'd think we could come up with something more civilized.

Yes. If you don't have money and you try to post your opinion on anything, you can be shunned, "reported" or whatever. But if you have the money, you can have your own newspaper, proper website, radio station etc.

It's called capitalism, and it's the way America operates, except for those who whine they are being "shunned", "skipped", "omitted", et al.

Most successful people are the ones who worked for what they have, including power.

And yes, money = power, as far as gov't is concerned. Never will there be a day that an average Joe making 45k/yr becomes president.
