If you pick up a red book at your local coin store there are pictures inside.

The large date is slightly thicker and slightly more raised than the small date. I was able to tell the difference between mine under a magnifying glass. You could even try taking some close up pictures and reposting the question so that we can have a look at them or post them on this website where other coin collectors can have a look and tell you:

Good luck!

First of all it is nice to have them both to compare them. On the 1960 small date cent the 6 has a shorter top to it and the 0 is smaller also the top of the 9 is below the top on the 1. Now on the 1970 cent it should be called a low 7 or high 7 not a large or small date. The high 7 is called a small date, the 7 is higher than the 0, on the large date the 7 is below the 0 and the 9. A coin dealer can show you the difference in one of his books, or he should have both types of each date if I didn't explain this so you understand. I guess a picture is worth a thousand words.

1960 has a large/small date penny...just a minting variation where 1 is rarer than the other. One's date is struck much larger than the other.
