Yes, as a student you need to learn to follow the instructions of your teacher. If you are a minor, you should have gotten in even more trouble than you probably got in for lack of respect for authority in a classroom.
Also as a student, as you mature, you should be able to see the assignment as a growth project. To be able to move beyond the what & where and delve into thoughts & emotions or to address it from the angle of where you were in your life versus where you ended up & how the events of that day played a role.

What kind of trouble? Let us never forget what all took place that day and how our country has been changed by what took place that day. Too many teachers and democratic poloyicians would rather have us stick our heads in the sand and hide!
Yes I remember what I was doing when I heard the first news of the attack on our country. May I never forget. But also am I to sit in that place forever? Please no! It doesn't hurt to talk about or share what you were doing but neither does it hurt to share how that has effected your life and your outlook on life.
Perhaps your teacher could have worded the question better.
maybe noy just what you were doing, but what effect did this have on how you live your life today?

I don't think you should have gotten in trouble for being disrespectful. I agree with your position and I was in the WTC on 9/11. If you got in trouble for not doing the work as assigned then that is up to the teacher.

you shouldve gotten a 0 on the project, and yes i do think you should of got in trouble, that is extremely disrespectful, no matter whether you think its old, for years to come students and others will have to do this, and your comments lead me to another thing, you seem like one of those people who will forget the past and repeat the past mistakes of the world, why do we remember the holocaust? because we write about it fairly often in school, last thing ive got to say to you, many things dont have a reason, there is no such thing as fate, try to get over it and improve? and how are we going to improve without remembering the day that it happened? No wonder so many people are worried about the future, with people like you...
BTW you do have a right to express yourself, however you express yourself when the time is right, not in a school paper that wasnt assigned for you to do so

No I dont think you should get in trouble for your opinion. but you still did not complete the assignment and that was wrong. next time do the work first. then express your feelings.

Should have wrote about how you felt instead of the assigned topic. Or just played a fool (to see what kind of reaction you get from the teacher) and wrote that you didnt remember where you were, or that you were stoned.

You didn't complete an assignment. What I would have done is completed it and added my personal thoughts on the matter.
