I own a 1994 toyota pickup truck.Today I was driving(65-70 mph) in 90 degree weather with the ac on.The gauge went about 1/8" to 3/16"past middle.

The (2-row) radiator (scilla brand) is less than a year old.I just had the fan clutch replaced about two weeks ago.My radiator is full.I figure if it was my thermostat, it would either be stuck shut, which would make it run hot "soon", or stuck open which would keep it from reaching operating temp.

When I took the top off my radiator, it was running over.A "very full" radiator would not casue this problem (would it?).What about a bad radiator cap, what would be the symptoms of that?

I am planning on driving to TX (across AZ and NM-both places can get really hot) in a week.Should I just "bite the bullet" and install a (about 1" thicker) three row radiator(modine, or napa)?

What about flushing the system, adding a 30/70 mix of coolant to water, and then add a coolant additive (like water wetter)?

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!

All I see is quite normal. The temp. gauge moving up 1/8" seems normal. Drive it and when it gets where you think it is a little warm turn off the a/c for a mile or two and it will come down. The a/c condensor is located in front of ye radiator and puts out a lot of heat when a/c is on. Never flush your radiator. All you will do is stir up any residue that has accumulated and force it into the radiator water passages and plug it up further. Always run at least a 50/50 anti freez mix. this is so your evaporator doesn't freeze your heater core with a/c on. Be sure your radiator cap is proper pressure rating ( auto supply can tell you) and the syatem is full when cold. Never take a radiator cap off when engine is running. Make sure your ovrflow container is at the proper level when cold. Have a good trip

your not supposed to take the cap off of them and them warm with pressure on them, they will all run over a little, all it may need is flushing but with it being that new id say the thermostat may be sticking on it,you got to remember though, 90 degree weather will make one run a little warm,id keep a 50/50 mix in it ,i wouldn't change that ,it may just need a new thermostat there supposed to be changed once a year,no one ever does it though,we all just replace them if they go bad, good luck on it.

I would flush the cooling system and get a new 170 degree thermostat..... then take it for a ride and see what happens.
