hi have a sony vaio vgn fs830 laptop problrm is it has 512 mb ram "512 MB PC2-4200 533 MHz RAM", and i wanna install microsoft vista on it , i got another 1 gb ram card "1gb ddr2 sodimm 5300/4200 pc2-667-533 200 pin"i know how to install it but my question is can i add this 1 gb card with the exsiting 512 mb ram or i have replace it with that???

Most likely your computer has 2 256 mb memory chips, so you can replace one with the 1gb memory chip you just bought.

If they are the same pin type and if they are both ddr2, your laptop has slots to hold up to 2 GB of RAM.

Check first your board manual see if it supports ther DDR2 if yes then set/put the 1g RAM to the 1st SODIMM slot, insert both then go to CMOS, (remember put the 1g chip to the 1st slot/primary slot) if both detected then fine, if only the 1g is detected then just put the 1g RAM only. Best to put same amount of RAM to both Slot.

YUP, go right ahead. In case of "No boot" or the beeps, just try reseating the module or interchanging positions of the modules.
