Because the metabolic processes that keep them alive are destructive to their cells and the cells must be replaced. Look at a tree, the "wood" are cells that have could no longer function, became filled with cellular waste. All living organisms are nothing more than an accumulation of giggling bags of water and salt. The "giggling" is the cellular activity. When the giggling stops, the cells die.

Because the 'god' of evolution says so. You know if you put allot of muck together in exactly the right way you have this incredibly complex life form that magically grows and reproduces - even on the microscopic level. Isn't the 'god' of 'non-intelligent' 'chance' evolution powerful and complex?

If life only comes from life then how did life come from muck?

PS:The earth is flat too.
