in my never to be humble opinion...i think it has everything to do with who is 'carrying the biggest stick', whoever it is gets to do all the 'official' labeling. isn't that always the way in wars?

Freedom fighters generally take on armed troops of a nation or occupying power, hoping to overthrow that government and establish a new one. Terrorists deliberately target civilians. They don't want to replace a government with their own ranks of people. They just want to instill enough fear in a civilian populace so those civilians will force the governmet into doing the bidding of the terrorists.

All perception of the people who are fighting and who the enemy to "you" is.

A terrorist though in my opinion targets civilians and the people who invaded their country while freedom fighters strictly go after the people that invaded their country.
