I had two but one was sickly when purchased - got better - then suddenly got pneumonia and died. I feel bad only having one but he grew quite large so I do not want to put a smaller turtle in the tank and RES are banned for sale in FL.

.
Personally I would monitor the other one and if it shows signs of stress, due to being lonely...I would purchase one the same size. If he/she starts doing things that is out of character..like hiding, not eating or not basking..You know the turtle better then I do.

If not turtles are fine on their own...This will save you money in the long run...time on water change..etc. Less chances of having a female and male and ending up with clutches of eggs and not knowing what to do!

I own 4 and they are a big responsibility

You don't want to put a smaller turtle with a big turtle, when i frst bought mine he was 3 years old already, i got another one but it was only i year old, one day i saw the young one floating in the water he was just floating doing nothing, but when o took him out to change the water i saw that part of his shell had teeth marks on it, turtle teeth marks on it, it turned out that the big one bit the young one and was trying to eat him, but if you do decide to put a younger turtle you'd have to watch them closely day and night, if i were you i'd one that's the same age as the one you already have.
