I know what I am about to ask may sound stupid but its for safety reasons.

I have replaced the headlight socket on the drivers side. I would like to replace the headlight socket on the passengers side but to do so I must remove the battery.

Now for my question when removing the battery in order to avoid being shocked should I remove the positive or negative first?

Any other information will be greatly appreciated. Also please do not leave any comments about me or my question being stupid.

when removing a battery take the negative off first, normally the black wire, but don't just go on color of the wire, look on the battery for a + or - you want the -, and it should be connected to the engine block, when you remove it, tuck it away from the battery so it doesn't touch by mistake. then remove the positive cable and then the battery. Re-install in reverse order, and after you connect the battery back up you will probably have to run the engine idle up about 2000 rpms for a few minutes to let the computer reset itself. good luck, and don't worry about the idiots that want to ridicule, normally they are the stupid ones.

always remove the negative first. That is the ground with no ground the positive has no way to spark or shock you. Best to get a battery wrench that has a rubber handle.

I am pretty sure you should remove the negative first. If you tough the positive, you won't be grounded and get shocked.

basically,as long as you are not soaking wet,you will not be shocked by battery.you can touch both terminals and never feel a thing.take off connectors one at a time, you will be fine.as a rule, whenever i work under the hood ,i remove one terminal of batery, this breaks entire circuit of cars electrical system,so i dont accidently short something with one of my tools.computers in cars cost more than the one you use at home.electrical shorts kill computers!
