It is a very clever question, because it requires a complicated answer... Let me think... Happiness is not easily defined. To me it is a knowledge that I am loved unconditionally and needed. It is also safety and well being of my family and friends. Success in my job gives me financial stability, and that is also a comforting thought. In short: it is a peace of mind.
It isn't easy to make me sad: I happen to be an eternal optimist. However, pain, loss of a loved one, violence of any kind, abuse etc. would make me pretty unhappy.

Music seems to make me happy. I've always had a fondness for music, but lately, I've noticed it's about the only thing that helps me forget about my issues. The other night, I had a terrible dream that everyone close to me was dying. So I would say death would make me sad.

Things that make me happy:
Homemade soup on a rainy sunday afternoon and a sappy Lifetime movie.
The first cool day of fall, especially after the oppressive heat in the south.
The Beatles.
Finally writing something after months of a dry spell.
The ocean.
The leaves changing colors in Autumn.
A really corny joke.
Helping someone.
Epiphanies.
Cooking.
Creating something.
Things that make me sad:
Rejection
Not accomplishing goals because of fear of failure and rejection.
Winter.
Stories of abuse and violence against children and helpless individuals.
Envy and Hate.
The news.
Bad T.V.
A crappy book that I feel compelled to finish reading anyway.
Celebrity worship that is rampant in our culture and the media.
Sad people.

for some reason the song "It's Magic" makes me happy. haha. but really just feeling loved by my friends and family makes me feel great and soo happy. what makes me feel sad is feeling left out, unloved, or betrayed.
