I don't really have an answer for you. But I wanted you to know that I grew up with glass. There was no plastic anything when I was young. When plastic glasses came out, most women stuck their noses up at them and refused to have them in our houses, they were cheap and degrading to the proper housewife. Wow, look at us now.

No matter the answers you get, you ask a great question.

First of all, in all history, no other discovery or invention has been as widely used.

Second; and more obvious; plastic is as much a curse as it is a blessing.

It definitely pollutes; and any denial of that is ludicrous. Much like GOLD...plastic only changes form. It never truly is completely destroyed. If it happens to be burned; it's form becomes toxic in the manner of gases; etc.

To recycle it is outrageously expensive, though we do it every day. Perhaps even at the cost; that's the blessing?

Obviously I might be STONED against some wall for stating the above, but I too am subject to what usefullness it has.

Plastic when was first developed was a curse to our eco system. Today at least 85% is recycled into many products that you now buy. The plastic wood composite for decking is made from recycled plastic. The plastic used in cars such as door panels and dashboards and other parts are made from recycled plastic. Just about everything today is made from recycled plastic. So in my opinon today plastic is good.
