We have a representative democracy/republic.
We also have a "market economy," as opposed to a "command economy"

RE:
What type of government does America have?
The answer I'm looking for is not "democracy." It's something like a capitalist bureaucracy... I can't remember exactly what it is, but I know it has something to do with sales...

What your looking for is not government type but economy type..
that is capitalistic in nature.
Which means that the businesses are ran by individual owners and are not government influenced. And prices are influenced by sales, and wages. It is also the most volatile economic types in the world, as there will be up turns as well as depressions. Depending on sales, cost of raw goods and wage earnings in a given time frame.
That is why there is a lot of focus on the stock market and housing starts, as it tells people the health of the economy.
What you refer to is more a communistic view of a capitalistic economy then what is really what happens.

It was designed as a Federated Republic. But Representative Democracy is a better answer.

It is called a democratic republic. Although some think the Federal Gov't is responsible for all, the truth is that we are a Republic of Sovergein States.
Sales? maybe you are thinking of a free market society?
