How much of each of the following substances would you add to water to prepare 1.90 L of a 0.50 M solution?

NiCl2 from the salt NiCl2·6 H2O

I got two answers, and don't know which one is right. Using sig figs, i got

1.2E2 or 2.3E2... which one's correct?

Because you are weighing out the hexahydrate, you need to take the weight of the included water into account when determining weight of material to use. This water can weigh almost as much as the salt itself

NiCl2 (6 H20) = [129.6 + 108 (water)], or 237.6g/mol

1.9l of 0.5mol/l requires 0.95mol of the material

0.95 x 237.6 = 230g (using just 2 sig figures).

I believe your other answer was calculated omitting the water from the formula.
